Solana Beach, which means ‘sunny beach’ in Spanish, lives up to its name. This charming seaside community is nestled along the northern coast of San Diego County, between Del Mar and Encinitas. Solana Beach is nestled atop a rocky coastline that offers great surfing year-round, tide-pools and snorkeling. Surfers, runners, and bike-riders are often sprinkled throughout the landscape in Solana Beach. A 2-mile long path constructed on the east side of Route 101 for walking and biking is an ideal complement to this active community.
Residents enjoy the sunny coastal location by the beach that lies below water-sculpted sandstone bluffs. Popular beach spots in Solana Beach include Fletcher Cove, Tide Beach, Seascape Surf and Del Mar Shores.
In Solana Beach, the Coastal Rail Trail meanders between Highway 101 and the Coaster line from Ocean Street in the north to Via de la Valle in the south. The trail passes through a landscaped area and features public art along the busy corridor. It provides direct access to the Solana Beach Transit Center as well as dozens of restaurants and shops in the city’s downtown. The beach itself can be accessed from Plaza Street near the center of this trail segment.
The Coastal Rail Trail will one day run 44 miles from Oceanside to San Diego along the Coaster commuter rail. Today, short sections of the trail are coming together, with four disconnected stretches in Oceanside, Carlsbad, and Solana Beach currently open for use. In addition, the community is home to miles of beautiful hiking trails.
Solana Beach is just minutes away to the world-class Del Mar Thoroughbred Club for live horse racing and the San Diego County Fair. The upscale Cedros Design District features the artistic influences of the area, while also offering a unique mixture of shopping, boutiques, dining, microbreweries, art galleries, and distinctive home furnishing stores. The famed Belly Up Tavern is a local favorite for live entertainment. The Cedros Avenue Farmer’s Market is held weekly, as well as local annual events such as Fiesta Del Sol, Concerts at The Cove, and Beach Blanket Movie Night. The Lomas Santa Fe Country Club offers a 36-hole executive golf course combined with an array of social and recreational amenities.
Solana Beach homes come in a wide variety of styles, from ultra-modern gems with distinctive landscaping and plenty of ocean views, to single family craftsman style homes with plenty of room to grow in, to a unique artistic home, to oceanfront condos with panoramic ocean views.
The City of Solana Beach is not only rich in culture and recreation but takes pride in its high standards for education. Solana Beach is part of the highly acclaimed Solana Beach Elementary School District and the San Dieguito Unified School District.
